Why tree hollows matter
Greater Gliders are 100% reliant on tree hollows for daytime roosting and breeding. They require large hollows in old-growth eucalypts that can take 150+ years to form naturally — making artificial hollows in living trees one of the most important interventions for their survival.
SEQ range & outlook
Once widespread across SEQ; populations now severely fragmented in Brisbane City, Sunshine Coast Hinterland, Scenic Rim and the D'Aguilar Range. Climate change, hollow tree loss, fire and fragmentation are driving rapid decline.
