Environmental Projects

Since 2007 River City’s Environmental Project Team has been working in partnership with the Brisbane City Council on the “2 Million Trees – Our Urban Forest Project”. The goal of the Project is to bring the community and business together to make Brisbane the most ecologically diverse and green city in Australia.

The 2 Million Tree project is a march towards restoring urban forest habitat across Brisbane and creating a legacy for future generations to enjoy.

The “2 Million Trees- Urban Forest Project” aims to:

• increase biodiversity
• revegetate critical natural areas
• recreate habitat for Brisbane’s unique wildlife
• improve the amenity of the city
• improve the health of the city’s waterways
• improve air quality
• progress towards the 40% vegetation cover target under Brisbane City’s Councils  Vision 2026

The project values and objectives are a perfect match for River City Environmental Projects who have been involved in tree planting across South East Queensland for the past decade planting trees ranging from tube stock to large ex-ground plantings.
Since commencement of this project in December 2007, River City has successfully delivered over 410,000m2 of revegetation works spanning across 20 separate planting sites across Brisbane and planted over 100,000 trees to date with another 50,000 trees currently being grown on for planting in spring. River City has also been involved in specification development, project management, chemical application and vegetation removal, site preparation and installation and maintenance.

Throughout the 2 Million tree program River City have been working with and developing partnerships with local habitat / bushcare groups. River City on behalf of Brisbane City Council recently held a fantastic planting event on National Tree Day with the Faulkner Park Bushcare Group and the local community.

The Faulkner Park planting was one of the sites delivered by River City earlier in the year and the event was such a success that the Brisbane City Council have already decided that they will be looking to schedule more of these events this year. River City are very experienced in delivering community based events through their Street Tree Planting Program held on most weekends, and have all of the professional equipment in place to ensure people of all ages enjoy the day.
